upper-level anticyclone

An anticyclonic circulation existing in the upper air; this often refers to such anticyclones only when they are much more pronounced at upper levels than at and near the earth’s surface. Also known as high aloft; high-level anticyclone; upper anticyclone; upper high; upper-level high.
