An area of low atmospheric pressure due to high temperatures caused by intensive heating at the earth’s surface; common to the continental sub-tropics in summer, thermal lows remain stationary over the area that produces them, their cyclonic circulation is generally weak and diffuse, and they are nonfrontal.
