Sphalerite is the main ore of zinc. Associated with galena, pyrite, marcasite, chalcopyrite, calcite. Formed as a replacement deposit in limestones and in veins in igneous rocks. It has the formulae (Zn,Fe)S and a relative hardness of 4.
