Slate

A foliated metamorphic rock that is formed through the metamorphism of shale. It is a low grade metamorphic rock that splits into thin pieces. Slate is a greyish metamorphic rock. It is very fine grained and splits well into thin sheets. It is composed of mica, quartz and other minerals and is used for roofing tiles and sheets.
