Replacement

The dissolving or disintegration of one material followed by precipitation of a new material in its place. Replacement refers to the process by which one mineral is replaced by another and the original physical form is often retained. Growth of a new or chemically different mineral in the body of an old mineral by simultaneous capillary solution and deposition.
