pelagosite

A superficial calcareous crust a few millimeters thick, generally white, gray, or brownish with a pearly luster, formed in the intertidal zone by ocean spray and evaporation, and composed of calcium carbonate with higher contents of magnesium carbonate, strontium carbonate, calcium sulfate, and silica than are found in normal limy sediments.
