That portion of the science of meteorology that deals with the observation and explanation of the smallest-scale physical and dynamic occurrences within the atmosphere; studies are confined to the surface boundary layer of the atmosphere, that is, from the earth’s surface to an altitude where the effects of the immediate underlying surface upon air motion and composition become negligible.
