lineation

Any linear structure on or within a rock; examples are ripple marks and flow lines. linear fabric element that occurs penetratively on a mesoscopic scale in a rock. Striations and fibres are not normally considered to be lineations since they do not occur penetratively on a mesoscopic scale.
