Left-Lateral Fault

A fault with horizontal movement. If you are standing on one side of the fault and look across it the block on the opposite side of the fault has moved to the left. (Also see Right-Lateral Fault.)

left lateral fault

A fault in which movement is such that an observer walking toward the fault along an index plane (a bed, vein, or dike) would turn to the left to find the other part of the displaced index plane. Also known as sinistral fault.
