Humus

The dark portion of a soil that consists of organic material that is well enough decayed that the original source material can not be identified. The amorphous, ordinarily dark-colored, colloidal matter in soil; a complex of the fractions of organic matter of plant, animal, and microbial origin that are most resistant to decomposition.
