Fulgurite

Fulgurite is a term applied to rocks whose surface has been melted by the action of lightning, and on which the fused material has re-solidified as a kind of thin coat or varnish. A glassy, rootlike tube formed when a lightning stroke terminates in dry sandy soil; the intense heating of the current passing down into the soil along an irregular path fuses the sand.
