differentiated layering

Secondary, spaced foliation in which cleavage domains and microlithons are recognisable with the naked eye. Differentiated layering is inferred to have formed by chemical differentiation in an originally more weakly layered or even homogeneous material. In fabric descriptions the non-genetic term compositional layering should be used if the origin is not known
