bright coal

A jet-black, pitchlike type of banded coal that is more compact than dull coal and breaks with a shell-shaped fracture; microscopic examination shows a consistency of more than 5% anthraxyllon and less than 20% opaque matter. Also known as bright-banded coal; brights.
