Basic Rock

An igneous rock that has a relatively low silica content. Basic rock refers to an igneous rock with a low percentage of silica and a high percentage of pyroxene, hornblende, and labradorite. Examples are gabbro and basalt. Also see entries for acidic, intermediate and ultrabasic rocks.
